Learn to fold a classic origami crane in this hands-on art program that highlights the history, science, and therapeutic qualities of the medium. Participants can volunteer for the Art HOPE 1,000 Healing Cranes Project to make paper cranes for cancer patients. Art HOPE is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting health and wellbeing through free expressive arts programs for people living with cancer or long-term illness and the community at large in collaboration with schools, health organizations, and arts groups in Maine. Over the past decade, Laura Jaquays, the organization’s founder and executive director, has worked with 4-H and other youth volunteers to create origami and art cards for cancer patients in York and Cumberland counties.
